Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi has called on governor Peter Munya to respect him even as the duo's rivalry deepen ahead of the August polls.
Speaking on Wednesday, Kiraitu noted that he mentored Munya both politically and professionally and therefore should accord him respect.
“I am the one who taught Munya when he was a law intern. I admitted him in my law firm,” Kiraitu said.
“He is also like my in-law because he has married in our village, and he definitely knew her because of me. And I even attended his dowry ceremony and supported him," he added.
The lawmaker further took a swipe on Munya's tenure as governor, accusing him of doing so little to improve the living standards of Meru residents.
Kiraitu is eyeing the Meru gubernatorial seat on a Jubilee Party ticket and pledged an all-inclusive government.
“If I am elected governor I will work with all leaders in the county,” he noted.
