Media council of Kenya, MCK chief executive David Omwoyo said it is sad politicians are inciting supporters to attack the press members.

“Politicians should respect media freedom and ensure their supporters do not attack journalists,” he said. 

Omwoyo urged Kenyans not to be misused by selfish politicians.

“Supporters should avoid politicians who are misleading them to attack journalists when they are at work. Supporters should refrain from the barbaric doings and respect members of the press to allow them work as provided by the law,” he added.

He said that Interior CS Fred Matiang’i was those who infringed on media rights.

"We witnessed the closure of television stations in the country by orders issued by the State. Kenya we have a constitution which protects the rights of citizens and the government should stop any attempt to violate the laws of the land,” he said. 

Omwoyo was speaking in Nakuru town on Sunday.
