The opposition, under Odinga has continued to pile pressure on the electoral body to resign from office over what they have alleged impartiality on electoral matters.

On Wednesday President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto accused the opposition leader of ‘playing’ sideshows by interfering with independence of constitutional offices.

“Time has come for people to avoid double speak. It’s really ridiculous for someone who purports to have been defending the constitution to come out boldly by waging demonstrations against independent offices,” Kenyatta said.

“There is a legal channel that should be followed to remove independent offices and Raila (Odinga) knows that. It’s disappointing that he wants to drag us to those days when the constitution was just a compilation of papers. We must all respect the constitution,” he added.

Ruto on his part accused the opposition chief of inciting Kenyans and termed the attempts to intimidate IEBC officials as ‘kicks of the dying horse’.

“It doesn’t make sense that you go around the country telling people that the constitution is perfect and her you are trying to mutilate it by intimidating officials of an independent office. These are just but kicks of a dying horse,” Ruto said.

The two leaders challenged Kenyans to shun constant politics and join hands for the sake of improving the economy of the nation by playing mature politics which were in line with the constitution.
