Mandera Governor hopeful Hassan Noor Hassan  has slammed incumbent Ali Roba, accusing him of allegedly disrespecting clan elders.

Noor claimed that Governor Roba is using his office to intimidate and harass clan elders who are opposed to his leadership style.

In an interview with the standard, the former Rift-Valley Provincial Commissioner (PC) asked Governor Roba to respect elders as tradition demands.

‘‘It is shameful for Governor Roba to criticize and question decisions made by our clan elders,’’ he said as quoted by the Standard.

Noor said that Roba’s administration has side-lined clan elders in its leadership. He asked the governor Roba to prepare for a tough political show down on August 8.

‘‘If Roba can fail to respect and recognize the role played by clan elders and community leaders in leadership and administration then he has no business seeking re-election,’’ he added.

The former PC claimed that Roba is incompetent and has failed to champion development. Noor, who is seeking to unseat Roba on Economic Freedom Party (EFP) asked residents to endorse his bid.

He said that he has political experience to manage Mandera county affairs if elected.

Last week governor Roba accused a section of council clan elders of allegedly meddling into the leadership of the region.

Roba claimed that the council of elders is allegedly imposing leaders on locals.

The governor claimed that the council of elders has lost touch on its work and is now interfering with running of county governments.

Governor Roba is seeking re-election on Jubilee Party ticket.
