A lot of Kenyans now say that the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) has failed them.
The speaker of the National Assembly, Justine Musturi agrees with these sentiments and states that it is petty and not benefiting Kenyans in any way. He said the body should be reformed and restructured to carry out economic crimes seriously.
This comes after other members of the public said the EACC had let them down on the war against graft. Many people questioned how the former cabinet secretary of Devolution and Planning, Anne Waiguru was cleared of corruption charges before shortly being mentioned as a key suspect in the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal that led to the loss of sh791 million.
Kibera residents had something to say about this issue. They feel the commission has not carried out proper investigations concerning the scandal.
Waiguru, on the other hand, said she was being fixed by her enemies who did not want her to run for the Nairobi gubernatorial race in next year’s general election.
The EACC also said they are short of personnel who will help in checking and clearing cases. The commission’s chair, Philip Kinisu said they need more money to employ more staff.
Gladys Shollei also accused the EACC of not carrying out their duties professionally and fixing people in scandals that they are not guilty of.
