A group of Kalenjin elders from the North Rift region has urged opposition chief Raila Odinga to support Deputy President William Ruto in his 2022 presidential bid.
The elders were speaking in Eldoret town on Monday after holding a consultative meeting.
Led by Retired Major John Sey, the elders stated that DP Ruto played a big role in Raila's presidential vote hunt in 2007 hence he "should now support him back".
"We request Opposition leader Raila Odinga to support DP Ruto. He knows the kind of support accorded to him by the Deputy president in 2007. It will be good for him to return back the favor," said Seii.
The elders also urged Raila to retire from active politics in 2022 noting that they will welcome him to join them so that they can work together in guiding the younger, energetic generation.
"Raila Odinga is aging just like us. We request that when President Uhuru will be going home in 2022, he should also retire."
"We will welcome him as an elder so that we can guide the younger generation to steer our country," stated Seii.
The Kalenjin elders applauded the decision by the President Uhuru and Raila to hold talks saying that it will promote peace, unity and national development. They said all leaders from various political divide should emulate them.
"This is the time Kenyans has been waiting for. It is time for all leaders to unite their people for the betterment of our beloved country," added Seii.
