Deputy President William Ruto now wants opposition leader Raila Odinga to retire from active politics or face ‘humiliation’ in August elections.
Odinga, 72 is set for his fourth and perhaps the last stab at presidency after three previous unsuccessful attempts.
In his tour with President Uhuru Kenyatta at North Rift on Tuesday, Ruto exuded confidence that Jubilee administration will be reelected.
“Our competitors do not have plans for this country other than useless rhetoric. They cannot see even the transformation of infrastructure that we have had in the last few years,” Ruto said.
“That Mzee (old man) should either retire peacefully or we humiliate him badly in elections. We appreciate his role in Kenyan politics but time has come for him to quit,” said Ruto in reference to NASA leader Raila Odinga.
A spirited opposition team has equally been leading onslaught at the government with Odinga assuring his supporters of a definite victory.
Although he lost in 2013 elections, Odinga has vowed to ‘guard’ his votes and has since warned the electoral body IEBC against rigging.
