The initiative, which was started in November last year has already given out loans of Sh1 million each to 150 groups that sums up to Sh150 million, which is to be repaid at an interest rate of 2%.

For a group to be eligible to get the loan, it must have 40 members regardless of gender or age-open to all.

Speaking in Kisii town, the founder of the program Lumumba Nyaberi said that they give out loans to 50 groups every month.

“We give fifty million shillings to fifty groups of 40 people each every month; we gave out the money in December, January and February. We shall give out another 50 million this month of match,” he said.

Lumumba said that they intend to have given every group up to Sh10 million in the next five years, to help terminate poverty from the region, adding that by next year, the programme that runs for five years will start in Nyamira County.

“We want to ensure that no one from the larger Gusii is poor and this can only be achieved if you pay well the starting loan and from there you can get up to 10 million in five years,” he said.
