A retired security guard with a local security company is appealing for help from the government and law firms to enable him claim his unsettled retirement benefits.
Oscah Ondari, 72, a former employee of a security company in Nakuru town who spoke to this writer in Ponda Mali slums on Thursday said that he was living in poverty and poor health after being sacked illegally some twelve years ago.
He said that the company had sacked him for redundancy. Ondari said this was occasioned by cold related ailments he contracted during his night duties.
“I fell sick and the company sacked me claiming that I was not performing. I had been denied a sick leave for some time and later I decided to abandon work since I could not work while sick,” Ondari said.
He added, “The company’s director who has since died and succeeded by his wife had instructed the administrator to process my overdue salary and retirement benefits. The administrator has since conspired with the new director to frustrate me for all these years.’’
According to Ondari, who currently depends on the government’s cash transfer programme and well-wishers for survival, efforts to seek legal redress have been fruitless as he is not familiar with necessary procedures and finances to contest in a court of law.
The retired security guard and former Kenya Prisons Warden said he has also unsuccessfully tried to get help from Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua, area MP Samuel Arama and MCA Daniel Ambale.
