As the final term of the secondary schools’ academic calendar begins, school fires have begun again with Nairobi’s Highway High School seeing its dormitory razed down in what is seen as a continuation of last term’s inferno headache.

According to the Star, more than ten students at the school lost their property following the weekend fire that affected the dormitory.

Elsewhere in Tharaka Nithi County, about 78 students of Kirege Mixed Secondary School suffered the same fate as a fire razed down their dormitory and destroyed their belongings.

The cause of the fire in both incidences has not been established although police have launched investigations into the cases.

Last term, more than 150 schools experienced school fires in what the Ministry of Education said was sabotage by headteachers and exam cheating cartels trying to see Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi dismissed or stopped from making radical changes in the institutions of learning.
