Machakos county returning officer Joyce Wamalwa yesterday admitted that the outcome of the August General election at the gubernatorial level had errors.
According to the Star, Wamalwa, however, maintained that the errors did not affect the outcome of the exercise, adding that the election were not only free but also fair.
Former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti had moved to court seeking to challenge the outcome of the governorship of Mutua Alfred. The politician told the court that the exercise was not conducted as required in the constitution. Wamalwa, however said that Mutua was validly re-elected into power.
“There were some discrepancies in the results entered in one or two forms and in others the presiding officers did not sign, but the variances could not significantly affect the overall outcome of the results, he said, as quoted by the local daily.
She also denied having knowledge that the presiding officers colluded with county officials to deny Ndeti victory during the last General election.
“We had 1,332 polling stations in the county and couldn’t know all the presiding officers who worked in those polling stations,” Wamalwa said.
