Voters from two constituencies in Kenya have never re-elected their Members of Parliament since 1992.
The two constituencies are Rangwe in Nyanza and Tetu in Central region.
With just 37 days left to the August 8 polls, incumbent MP’s Ndung’u Gethenji of Tetu constituency and George Oner of Rangwe should be worried if history repeats itself.
According to records, list of legislators who have never retained their seats since the realisation of multi-party democracy in Kenya include;
Joseph Muga Ouma (1992-1997)
Shem Ochuodho (1997-2002)
Philip Okoth Okundi (2002-2007)
Martin Otieno Ogindo (2007-2012)
George Oner is the incumbent since 2013-date and it’s yet to be known if he will be retained or ousted.
In Tetu, the four law makers elected for one term in office are;
Joseph Gethenji (1992-1997)
Paul Gikonyo Muya (1997-2002)
Professor Wangari Maathai (2002-2007)
Francis Nyammo (2007-2012)
Ndung’u Gethenji was elected in 2013 and will be seeking re-election as an independent candidate in the August 8 polls after losing during the Jubilee primaries.
