Homa Bay County prides itself as the devolved unit with the largest number of female elected Members of Parliament (MPs).
The South Nyanza county leads with four elected female MPs, following the August 8th General Election.
They were all elected on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket.The four are:
1. Gladys Atieno Nyasuna, she is the Woman Representative, Homabay County. Many of you know her as Gladys Wanga.
She won the seat by a landslide after securing 95.56% of the votes.
It is her second term in office as Woman rep.
2. Eve Akinyi Obara, she is the MP for Kabondo Kasipul.
Prior to joining politics, she was the Managing Director of Kenya Literature Bureau (KLB) but stepped down in 2016 and joined politics.
3. Lillian Achieng Gogo, she is the legislator for Rangwe constituenot.
During the last election, she garnered 23, 998 votes.
She previously served as a lecturer at the Egerton University but resigned to vie for the seat.
4. Millie Grace Akoth Odhiambo, she is the MP for Suba North and iS commonly referred to as Millie Odhiambo Mabona.
She secured the Suba North parliamentary seat, previously Mbita after garnering 26, 525 votes.
It is her second term as an elected MP. Before joining politics, she worked as a lawyer for women and a children’s rights activist.
She is the founder of The CRADLE NGO, which advocates, promotes and protects the rights of children through advocacy and law reforms.
