Governors Ali Hassan Joho (Mombasa), John Mruttu (Taita Taveta) and Amason Kingi (Kilifi) have assured the ODM party leader, Raila Odinga, that the Coastal region is behind the party.

Below is the declaration:
''THE PWANI DECLARATION OF TONONOKA We, as representatives of the undermentioned Peoples, as the six counties of the Coast region, 001 – Mombasa County 002 – Kwale County 003 – Kilifi County 004 – Tana River County 005 – Lamu County 006 – Taita Taveta County as established by the Constitution of Kenya Chapter 11 Part IV and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Act 2011, Part V Section 36. Come together today, Acknowledging the supremacy of the Constitution of Kenya as the law of the land Respectful of the common history of our Peoples and its leadership Re-awakening in our hearts the spirit of our heroes Mekatilili wa Menza, Ronald Ngala, Karisa Maitha amongst others, Reaffirming our commitment to the third and final liberation of the People of Kenya in 2017, Cognizant of the dark history of marginalization wrought upon us as a people by successive regimes since Independence, Keenly aware of the deliberate policy of economic sabotage and the false promises of “development” as espoused by this Jubilee regime, Therefore Following widespread, in depth and comprehensive consultations with the elders, religious leaders, men, women and youth of the aforementioned Counties, we have resolved as follows: 1. That our preferred choice of political vehicle for posterity has been and continues to be the ORANGE DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT 2. That given our history, our journey and our destiny, our preferred choice of President, has been and continues to be, the Rt Hon Raila Amolo Odinga, the Party Leader of the Orange Democratic Movement. 3. That we shall vote in unity, solidarity and vigor to support the establishment of an inclusive NASA government in the forthcoming elections. 4. That we shall not accept anything short of a free and fair election in August and that we shall hold the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission wholly responsible for meeting this expectation. 5. That we shall whole heartedly support our leaders in this reawakening and renaissance of our people in the pursuit of a fair and equitable share of the national cake.''
