The release of the first list of names to form Uhuru Kenyatta's second and final term cabinet has sparked a lot of chatter, especially on social media given the reported DP Ruto's unhappiness over the list. When he unveiled the list, DP Ruto was conspicuously absent in spite of being in the country on that day.Political commentators have used this development to support the argument that President Uhuru Kenyatta may violate his pledge to support William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid, a possibility that has many Ruto allies from Rift Valley extremely riled up.The argument is that Ruto is helpless if the betrayal allegations are to be taken at face value. The truth of the matter is that the perception of helplessness is wrong: Ruto is the pillar upon which Uhuru's presidency depends for stability.Should President Uhuru Kenyatta send the clearest signal of betrayal, Ruto could go for the 'nuclear option': Join ranks with the opposition to pass a vote of no confidence against the president, something that opposition leaders would willingly help carry out.

Already opposition politicians like Miguna Miguna have expressed their willingness to accept Ruto back into their fold should he cleanse himself of past sins: a prospect that should deeply worry President Uhuru Kenyatta. The Deputy President has numbers in the National Assembly and the Senate, numbers that he could mobilise to wreck Uhuru Kenyatta's second-term presidency.

He may even decide to work with Raila Odinga to get back at the President to prove a point.

The former MP who rose through the ranks to the second-in-command is no pushover as some commentators want Kenyans to believe.
