It is quite tense in Mandera after about 100 Al Shabaab militia attacked two different police stations in Sino at around 1 a.m.
The raid characterised by heavy gunshots is said to have lasted for 2 to 3 hours in two different stations.
The heavily armed men stormed both the regular and administration stations opening fire that resulted in the death of 5 police officers so far.
The militiamen are reported to have come from Somalia, launched the attack and then crossed back to Somalia.
According to regional coordinator ambassador Mahmood Swaleh, the attackers are few people living in the borders of Kenya and Somalia.
Mahmood claims that such attacks might come to an end in two to three years to come.
It is reported that the heavily armed militia destroyed Safaricom mast, looted shops and the police stations, took ammunition and riffles and then crossed the border back to Somalia.
The security situation in the northeastern part of Kenya was at its worst in the year 2015 and 2016 but reduced tremendously in the year 2017.
However, the situation has deteriorated of late for quite a long time with Al Shabaab launching different attacks in the region with the most recent attack launched two weeks ago in Wajir.
The attack has since inflicted fear in government public servants deployed to the region including teachers prompting them to seek redeployment to other areas for fear of their security.
Three people, two of them being teachers were reported dead.
