Retired President Daniel Moi made several frantic calls to his son, Baringo senator Gideon Moi, asking him to visit the family of deceased pluralism hero Kenneth Matiba.
Before that, many Kenyans had concluded on social media that the Moi family was not likely to condole Matiba's due to political animosity that was witnessed between the two in 90s.
At Riara Ridge on Monday, the young Moi narrated how his father ensured that he visits before the burial of his friend cum political competitor.
"On my behalf and that of my father, who has called me six times to find out whether I have come to comfort you, I bring condolences of my entire family," said Moi.
He added: "We were friends in the same school with his son (Raymond) while our fathers were also friends at their age."
In 1990, the former minister was arrested and confined in Kamiti without trial by Moi's government and is said to have suffered a stroke while in detention.
During a past interview, Matiba's widow Edith confirmed that the two families have not seen eye to eye since the acrimonious fallout in bitterly contested 1992 polls and prior detentions.
