Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i's increased presence within Kisii and Nyamira Counties is reportedly causing confusion among local politicians.
For weeks now, Matiang'i has been camping in the two counties thus making local politicians uneasy due to his unpredictability.
Interestingly, the outspoken CS's parents were residents of Kisii County while he was born in Nyamira County, a reason why politicians are concerned about his next move.
Throughout the long protracted presidential elections, Matiang'i was the right hand man for President Uhuru Kenyatta and literally coordinated presidential elections despite not being a politician.
A local MP who declined to be named, said local politicians are now pushing him to be Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 runing mate, a scheme to dismember any of his plans to run for gubernatorial seat in either of the counties.
"He has confused many politicians especially those with ambitions in county seats. They are literally confused with him," said the MP.
He further said: "Most of my colleagues now wants him to run as a running mate in 2022 and that is a strategy to edge him out of the local scene."
According to the MP, Matiang'i's increased presence in local politics is winning him support from the old aged voters, who understandably vote in large numbers.
When he was appointed minister in Uhuru's second term, Matiang'i was widely criticised by Nyamira politicians who labelled him a 'tenant' in the county due to his mixed origin.
Those who came outopenly about his controversial origin include Joash Nyamoko of North Mugirango and ex-Kitutu Masaba MP Walter Nyambati.
