Shocking details regarding behind scenes intrigues that led to dismissal of IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati’s Personal Assistant, shows loopholes within the electoral commission that could have sent the chair home.
Gekara Mouni, an aide to Chebukati, was sent packing on grounds that he has been leaking confidential information to the public according to IEBC sources.
Unknown too many, intrigues surrounding Mouni’s conduct has been under investigation for over a month now and his dismissal was long overdue.
It all started by deletion of a name for MCA nomination listed by ODM party in Nyamira county and subsequent replacement by a ‘stranger’.
Damaris Mouni, the mother to Gekara, forced her name to nomination list using her connections within the IEBC without the knowledge of ODM party.
Moments after her nomination, ODM wrote demanding to know how the initial list was amended and further called for immediate reinstatement of Irene Nyakerario, who had been placed on third position in the ascending order.
And in response, Mouni, who son was behind the scheme, filed a petition in Nyamira Law Courts where she sued IEBC, ODM and the person whom she was substituted with.
It is at this point that Wafula Chebukati learnt about the real threat of losing his job following tough demands from IEBC.
Although the case is still pending in court and the subsequent beneficiary is yet to be sworn in, Chebukati may have acted to save his career due to the weight of the matter.
It is alleged that Mouni prevailed her son to use shortcuts to insert her name in ODM list without the party’s consent.
