The Makueni senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr has revealed how much Kenyan elections costs per person.
Speaking during at Citizen TV during a show, the senator said that it costs every Kenyan 2510 shillings to hold an election adding that this is the highest among in the world.
“The elections in Kenya are the most expensive in the world, it costs 25.1 dollars per person,” said the senator on Wednesday.
He also said that the country has adopted unnecessary criteria that lack merit and integrity in coming up with an election body adding that the criteria cannot work since there are 43 tribes in the country.
“As a country, we should accept the principle that merit and integrity must come first. The problem is that we have imported all sorts of criteria including tribe, minorities, ethnic balance and regions in trying to come up with a commission. We are using the wrong criteria because the country has 43 tribes,” noted the Makueni Senator.
He added that the panel responsible for coming up with the commission always pick the worst candidate and leave the best.
This follows the resignation of IEBC officials and the push to remove the commission’s chairman Wafula Chebukati due to lack of credibility.
