This is after both President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA Presidential candidate Raila Amolo Odinga said that they will not attend the event.

The debate, which was organized by The Debates Media Limited committee and the Media Council of Kenya, is slotted for July 10 at Radisson Blu Hotel.

NASA presidential campaign secretariat said the former Prime Minister will not take part in the debate under suggested format and stipulation.

Jubilee party vice chairman David Murathe has also said that the President’s side was not consulted over the debate.

Leaders aligned to NASA have, however, asked President Kenyatta not to avoid discussing issues affecting the common mwananchi after he was the first to indicate he will not attend the event before Raila followed suit.

Meanwhile Alliance for Real Change presidential candidate Mohammed Abduba Dida has gone to court seeking to stop the presidential debate from being conducted.

The presidential candidate opposed the proposal to have two categories- those who have garnered over 5 per cent in opinion polls and those with less than 5 per cent.

Through lawyer Nicholas Orinda, Dida argues that the categorization is unfair and prejudicial.
