A last minute meeting between retired Nigerian President Olesegun Obasanjo with NASA leaders at Raila Odinga's home may have saved Kenya from possible violence, says Bonnie Khalwale.

With a defiant Raila insisting of a swearing in, Kalwale notes, Obasanjo may have created confusion that saw police withdrawn from Uhuru Park and other NASA leaders missing the event.

"Obasanjo was deployed by UN Chief Antonio Guiterres and somehow he managed to dissuade Raila from going on with the programme," he told a local TV on Wednesday.

The former senator added: "There was no swearing in. Raila was moved by the crowd and he just went to calm them. You would have seen invited leaders from around the world."

Although his version contradicts both Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi's, Khalwale criticised the two leaders for failing to tell their supporters the truth.

According to him, Obasanjo's call to State House assured President Uhuru Kenyatta that the event had been postponed making the state to withdraw the police.

"He (Obasanjo) called Uhuru and assured him that the event was not taking place and that is why police withdrew," he added.

In what shocked Kenyans, police deserted the venue despite promising fireworks the previous day, a move that Khalwale links to Obasanjo's intervention.
