According to Mr Miguna Miguna, the PM’s former advisor for coalition affairs, the opposition leader made his wealth from his links with powerful leaders in the nation and outside.
Miguna notes that the cord leader cut deals with regional leaders as well as some businessmen from different parts of the world including DRC and Uganda oil dealers.
In his book Peeling Back the Mask: A Quest for Justice in Kenya, Miguna notes that Raila’s close friends have also amassed wealth from the links.
The Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant notes that Raila once asked him what is the problem with his people who do not want to make money
“What’s wrong with Luos? Why are they talking too much, hmm? Who told them not to make money?’ Raila told Miguna when he visited him at his office.
The lawmaker also notes that Raila took advantage of oil money to mineral concessions in southern Africa as well as subsidized maize schemes among other deals to create his wealth.
He further links him to a controversial South African tycoon Antònio Texeira, the chairman of Petroplus Africa whom he claims contributed much to his empire.
The tycoon has interests in different areas including gold, oil and diamonds in Africa, Europe and the Middle East.
