The decision to exclude Kisii and Nyamira governors from his mega meeting that was never to take place have sabotaged Deputy President William Ruto's plans.
After a series of meetings with elected MPs from Gusii region, the DP had agreed with the MPs to have a major meeting in which plans to have a new party that brings together the region would have been discussed.
But the absence of Governor John Nyagarama (Nyamira) and James Ongwae (Kisii) sparked in fighting that saw the two county bosses plot how to sabotage the meeting.
Insiders say that the two governors cautioned Council of Elders against sanctioning the meeting leading to last minute cancellation.
"Our governors were not involved and they had to sanction against the meeting. The DP only relied on the MPs and this escalated the matter.
"Due to the control they have over Council of Elders, which was to be part of the meeting, they advised against grouping that was to take place in late April," said a source privy to the botched meeting.
At an interview on Tuesday, Borabu MP Ben Momanyi said a section of MPs had bolted out due to internal wrangles.
"I don't know much about what governors did but all I know is that some of my colleagues had advised against formation of a political party this early.
As part of his 2022 plan, the DP is keen to have the region voting for him as a block thus need to have a single party from the populous region.
