DP William Ruto’s political future in limbo after Raila Odinga suggested that he will not take part in repeat polls if their irreducible minimum conditions are not met by IEBC.

A close ally to President Uhuru Kenyatta has revealed to the Star how this stand by the opposition can keep Uhuru in office until 2022 and be eligible for a second term starting 2022.

"His second term will start in 2022 if no election is held as ordered by the court. The Supreme Court has to be very careful with its ruling on Wednesday (tomorrow). Never dig a hole too deep for your enemy, you may fall in it," the associate said but asked to remain an anonymous source as reported by the Star.

Lawyer Faith Waigwa supported this sentiment. She chaired Jubilee’s Nominations Appeals Tribunal. She says Uhuru might be in office beyond 2022.

"Constitutionally speaking, yes, he can, in light of Article 134, but practically I doubt it would happen. If it were to happen, it can't be a second term because the first never ended and for a second term, there must have been an election and not a nullified one and a new swearing-in/assumption of office," she told the Star.
