Negative ethnicity, nepotism and corruption in government departments are key reasons why Kenya has struggled to progress economically, says Raila Odinga in his new book Quest for Nationhood.
His political journey has been defined in several historical artifacts and has been one of the leading crusaders of democracy in the country.
On Sunday during his Nyamira tour, Odinga said the book gives Kenyans an overview of what has reportedly dragged national cohesion and positive development.
“It independence as explained in my new book, we were at same level with South Korea. By they are much far ahead of us in terms of GDP due to good leadership,” he said.
Odinga, who is running for president for the fourth time added: “Negative ethnicity, nepotism and corruption in government are the main reasons why we continue struggling.”
The book also criticizes founding president Jomo Kenyatta for allegedly being the sole perpetrator of the vices which he says would ruin the country in many years to come if leadership is not changed.
Also, it narrates his journey to the murky world of politics which is accompanied by a series of detentions by President Daniel Moi’s regime.
