Luo elders are divided on the vexed issue of how to respond to the Uhuru presidency.A faction led by Nyandiko Ongadi said that it will recognise Uhuru Kenyatta as the duly elected president of Kenya.Mr. Ongadi requested the president not to sideline the community in his second and final term.Another faction led by Ker Willis Otondi maintained that it will not recognise the presidency of Uhuru and called Ongadi's faction a group of traitors.

The Luo community overwhelmingly voted for Raila Odinga in the annulled August 8 election. 

It also largely heeded the veteran opposition leader's  call to boycott the October 26 presidential rerun.
