Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has managed to woo Gusii elected leader to his camp in his bid to prepare to enter into competitive politics.
As part of his 2022 plan, Matiang'i has devised a strategy that would see elected leaders host harambees in their various constituency in which he will be attending in person.
For the last several months, Matiang'i has been holding a series of fundraisers across Kisii and Nyamira Counties as part of his wider strategy to to cement his place in Gusii politics.
"He is keen first to bring together all elected leaders before making a bid move. However, there is still a dilemma as to whether he will go for Kisii or Nyamira gubernatorial seat," said an MP who spoke in confidence.
The source further said: "He has even hijacked access to the president such that we must pass through him before we are given audience."
Besides his planned intention to run in either of those counties, Matiang'i is also said to be keen on a deputy president post as part of his main agenda.
Last week, his hand in the funeral of 9 Narok accident victims controlled events with reports indicating that he helped MPs to secure Sh1 million for burial of the victims.
