Despite being his close confident on matters governance, retired president Daniel Moi never knew where the former powerful minister Nicholas Biwott lived.
Known as Total man or Bull of Auckland by his peers, Biwott is said to have lived a highly secret life outside the world of politics.
An extract by the Daily Nation tells how Moi struggled to locate Biwott’s home and even asked some of his friends the location given that the man in question never owned a cell phone.
“Who among you knows where Biwott lives?” Moi asked a delegation of KANU in his Maji Mazuri home in Uasin Gishu in 2004 after trying to get information from Cabinet Ministers proved futile.
And a day after his death on Tuesday, Nation journalists led by Ibrahim Oruko spent over four hours trying to locate Biwott’s home in Nairobi.
“We tried to locate his home I Nairobi and after multiple enquiries, we still struggled. In fact when a journalist directed us to Riverside Drive, even at the gate we were barred from accessing the compound,” he said.
