Deceased Interior Coordination Minister Joseph Nkaissery played a major role in restoring security in the porous Pokot-Turkana border, records of his interview with Journalists reveal.
Until his death, the former army Major General was involved in high security operations after a difficult start of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime.
Excerpts of an interview with K24 crew upon his appointment shows Nkaissery narrating tactics which they used to compel cattle bandits to surrender weapons.
“It is a tricky region and the operation Nyundo of 1984 gave me a major experience in West Pokot. People are armed and none is ready to surrender,” he said.
“We would occasionally take their cattle but they will fail to honour deals. Sometimes we had to command soldiers to slaughter those cows for our own meals,” he added.
As a major, Nkaissery was in charge of the operations and after its success; he was promoted and transferred to the Defense Headquarters.
His experience in the battle field saw the country combating a series of attacks from Al Shabaab militia that had escalated in the country.
