Although Tuesday could be the defining day in opposition politics, succession battles in replacement of Raila Odinga may have kicked long ago.
Viewed as one of the most powerful politician in the modern Kenya, Odinga could hang his boots after four decades of serious politics.
He lost his fourth bid to be president and has since denounced results that were announced by the electoral body IEBC.
But veteran politician Abuya Abuya says ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi stands a good chance to inherit Odinga’s support base in years to come.
“Musalia remains loyal when Odinga needed him most and it is likely that the Western block will now rally behind him.
“He is an experienced politician and organized enthusiastic opposition campaigns. He is likely to be the chose one,” adds Abuya, one of the most vocal people during the fight for multiparty democracy.
Among those who are expected to get Odinga’s blessing include Kalonzo Musyoka, James Orengo, Isaac Rutto, Moses Wetangula, Gladys Wanga and Mombasa governor Hassan Joho.
Previously, Mudavadi served shortly as Vice President before being appointed Odinga’s Deputy when he served as Prime Minister.
