Despite having serious ideological differences in their early days in politics, Siaya senator James Orengo has turned to be Raila Odinga’s foot soldier at the time of need.

Window-like spectacles and revolutionary shirts being his identify, Orengo is a familiar figure in political rallies, courts and even in parliament.

And in the last few days he has been man of the moment given his frequent pressers on behalf of NASA leaders after disputing the outcome of elections.

Being at his prime age in politics, Orengo’s political history dates back to the time he served as SONU chairman in 1973 which saw him tackle the then administration.

He would later go for exile in Tanzania due to his irreconcilable differences with President Daniel Moi and subsequently made a comeback in 90s.

And the eve of multiparty democracy, Orengo was one of the few young Turks who worked with veteran leaders under the leadership of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

He served as Ugenya MP until 2002 after which he lost polls due to his differences with political rival cum friend Raila Odinga.

He recaptured his seat in 2007 on an ODM ticket before being elected senator in 2013. A few days ago, he was reelected as senator for Siaya.
