The dismal performance of the ODM party and its party leader across the country has been attributed to key leaders in the Orange party.
Despite contesting the election outcome, figures from IEBC shows that Odinga allowed Uhuru Kenyatta to gain in his traditional strongholds in Kisii, Nyamira, coast and some parts of Western and Nyanza regions.
And political analyst Gideon Mamboleo has attributed the loss to ODM National Elections Board team which is chaired by Judith Pareno.
“ODM conducted shoddy elections and that is why the number of their representation in elective seats has drastically reduced.
“The NEB and some other key ODM lieutenants did things behind Odinga’s back leading to protest votes. Some people from his strongholds may have boycotted voting for president due to that,” he says.
For instance at Kisii and Nyamira, the ODM party failed to win any seat to parliament other than two senatorial and one Women Representative position out of the possible 17.
A similar trend was witnessed in Western region where MPs who have been associated with ODM but decamped due to wrangles managed to defend their seats successfully.
