The reception was one of a kind given that the opposition has been at loggerhead with Jubilee administration, with Mombasa opposition leaders accusing it of sidelining the people of Mombasa and the larger coast region.

Ruto was in Jomvu Constituency where he commissioned the Jomvu Kuu- Rabai Road, flanked by Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya.

ODM leaders who welcomed Ruto, days after their party leader Raila Odinga held truce meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta, include; Jomvu MP Badi Twalib, and his Mvita counterpart Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir.

The two pledged to work closely with Jubilee government for the sake of the country's unity.

Other leaders who welcomed Ruto include Nyali MP (independent) Mohammed Ali, former Senator Omar Hassan among others.
