National Super Alliance (Nasa) presidential candidate Raila Odinga has revealed that despite his son Fidel Odinga passing on in 2015, his name has not been expunged from the voters register.
This is despite a review of the voter by audit firm KPMG.
According to the audit firm, a total of 88, 602 dead voters were removed from the voter register with over 19.6 million voters certified to take part in the August 8, 2017 polls.
However, a number of Kenyans and the Opposition team have raised questions on the audited register saying names of dead voters who died some years ago can still be found in the updated register.
Speaking during a radio breakfast interview on Radio Maisha, Tuesday morning, the Nasa flag bearer said despite the name of his late son being found on the voters register, also random numbers being sent to IEBC’s SMS short code 70000 for querying the register, shows names of registered electorates.
“They (IEBC) say that they cleaned the register, my child (Fidel Odinga) died in 2015. His name is in that register,” said Raila.
“But what surprises is to send ID card no 00 and 11 and they bring names of registered voters. This is the dirt we were speaking about earlier and they (IEBC) said they are going to remove it,” he added.
IEBC has however defended the audit conducted by KPMG saying Nasa claims on the register are false and misleading.
