At a funeral in Ugenya on Saturday, Raila hinted his looming exit from NASA despite persistently denying the claim.

"I smell betrayal but we must reach Canaan. It is a tough journey but we will not entertain cowards," he stated.

During the 2017 elections, the veteran opposition leader had reached a deal to serve only as a transitional president until 2022.

But according to the source, Raila is planning to bring Mombasa governor Hassan Joho in his fifth trial to clinch presidency.

"He is going nowhere and that is an assurance. He will be deputised by Joho that's why he is keen to strengthen the ODM party,' said the high ranking official.

On Monday, Raila's plans were partly revealed by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who said the veteran leader was not about to quit.

Equally, the party's political affairs Opiyo Wandayi, was quoted saying that Rail will be on ballot in 2022.

In he equation, which omits bigwigs such as Musalia Mudavadi, Raila is said to be keen to work with young leaders among them Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala and  and leadership from pastrolist communities among them Senator Ledama Ole Kina.
