With barely two weeks before the country goes to the ballot, a presidential contender has raised an alarm over a plot by opposition leader Raila Odinga to ascend to the presidency through dubious means.

Thirdway Alliance candidate Dr Ekuru Aukots Aukot sensationally claimed that Raila intends to declare himself president while in Tanzania should the electoral body IEBC fail to declare him winner in the August 8 polls.

He said Raila plans to do this through his tallying centre that he has reportedly set up in Tanzania and which he said would validate his win.

"We have information that Hon Raila intends to declare himself president in our embassy in Tanzania. His tallying centre that he has set up there is aimed at validating his win should the IEBC fail to declare him president, " he told K24.

Aukot added that Odinga's refusal to acknowledge that the Nasa coalition has a tallying centre in Tanzania during the presidential debate is a clear pointer to his claims.

Asked whether he has a tallying centre in Tanzania by moderators of the Monday debate, Odinga was defensive that there is no problem with one setting up his own tallying centre adding that his coalition has set up one in the country and in the clouds.

"Yes we have a tallying centre in Tanzania, in Kenya, and in the clouds," Raila said.
