Although regarded as an opposition stronghold, President Uhuru Kenyatta may score substantive votes from Nyanza region in August elections.

Accumulatively, Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have made at least twenty trips to the region since 2013 with their main focus being Nyamira, Kisii and Migori Counties.

Recently, Uhuru invaded Homabay and Kisumu counties, the bedrock of opposition leader Raila Odinga where he promised to serve all Kenyans if elected.

But ethnic composition in the region that comprises six Counties with Siaya also in equation, could work with advantage of Kenyatta since Odinga only dominates Luo ethnic community.

While still Gusii and Luhya community leans towards opposition NASA, a substantive population could opt for Kenyatta given the number of trips he has made and probably development projects if any he has initiated.

In 2013, Uhuru managed to score 26 percent in Nyamira County and a whopping 33 percent in Kisii, helping him to surpass a constitutional threshold of scoring at least 25 percent in half of the counties.

The Abagusii community, a number of them who seems to have a soft spot on Uhuru occupies Kisii and Nyamira while the Kuria ethnic group lives in Migori.
