A letter from KEBS Managing Director Charles Ongwae could have Aden Industrialization CS Aden Mohammed losing his job due to ongoing crackdown over contraband sugar.
On June 14th, Ongwae wrote to the minister informing him about mercury samples in the sugar but the minister could decline later despite having prior information.
"I want to challenge my colleague Fred Matiang'i to come clean on the mercury. We have done various tests and we can confirm that the sugar is fit for consumption," he said.
But in the letter, Ongwae, who has since been arrested, said that other than mercury, the sugar also had traces of copper and other dangerous elements.
Through the Interior Ministry, DCI George Kinoti had separately done his own investigations and even threatened to move to court with the minister.
"I am ready to face the minister in court. We cannot gamble with the life of people. He must take responsibility," he said.
And due to the ongoing intrigues, Matiang'i skipped an important function in Nyamira on Friday to attend a crisis meeting over the contradiction between the two ministries.
The letter could have President Uhuru Kenyatta relieving duties Mr. Mohammed, who is now accused of lying.
