Details are emerging on how Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's political think tank burnt the midnight oil trying to come up with a strategy to counter an 'imminent impeachment'
Sources within City Hall said Sonko got intelligence over a plot to have city MCAs impeach him.
"The report thrust his advisers into a spin. They had to come up with something to counter the imminent impeachment," a source said.
It is after hours of closed door meeting that a decision was reached to have Sonko nominate a deputy as quickly as possible. The candidate was to be a person his 'enemies' were not comfortable with and therefore make him the lesser devil.
"The search for such an individual started and that is when they settled on Miguna Miguna because the powers that be could not have Sonko out and Miguna fully in control," the source added.
The thinking was that the 'enemies' would rather still have Sonko as the county boss compared to dealing with Miguna.
Jubilee vice chairman David Murathe would later confirm there were plans to have Sonko impeached.
“Sonko is forestalling his impeachment which has nothing to do with the DG’s position but his administration’s dismal performance. He is covering up his mistakes by trying to divert attention. His nomination of Miguna is of no significance,” said Murathe.
He added: “The impeachment will proceed and it has to do with failures to deliver services to the people as was pledged by the party during campaigns. He can throw tantrums but they will have no consequence. We want action and not talking lies.”
