The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) has revealed the amount of money it will compensate parents in the event their children die in school.
The board issued new guidelines stating that parents will be given Ksh 600, 000 as compensation in case a student dies in school as a comprehensive student cover,
Geoffrey Mwangi, the NHIF Chief Executive stated that the scheme will compensate parents for students who die in school from accidents or illness.
The money Sh600, 000 will be paid out in two portions. The first portion, Ksh 100, 000 will be released within the first two days of the student’s death to cover funeral expenses.
The second portion, the remaining amount of Ksh 500, 000 would be released with the first five days.
“As long as you are a continuing student you can access medical treatment in any HNIF accredited facility. But within the school setting, students will be required to go to medical facilities chosen by the school,” continued Mr Mwangi.
Among the services offered by the NHIF cover include outpatient, inpatient, dental, personal accident cover, emergency road and air rescue services.
However, procedures such as cosmetics or beauty surgery, laser eye surgery, massage and frames and lenses are not covered in the scheme.
