Depite her fluency and adoring voice on TV screens, newly appointed State House deputy spokesperson Kanze Dena's early life was full of challenges, reports the Standard.
The 39-year-old, who until her appointment was Swahili news anchor, had her father separating with the mother while she was still four years old.
After attending Kionjokoma primary, Ms. Dena secured a place at Kyeni Girls and subsequently joining Foundation College of Professionals fro journalism course.
But while at high school, Dena gave birth to a girl, Natasha, who she reportedly contemplated adopting, a move that was thwarted by her mother.
And after sending the girl to stay with the mother, she would later die. In separate interviews, she admits being an alcoholic before reforming.
The death of baby Natasha caused her depression and subsequently an aborted suicide according to the Standard.
While working as an intern at KBC, she had a second child, a blessing which coincided with her mother's death.
