He founded Bidco Industries in 1970 in order to manufacture garments. In 1985, he decided to venture into the production of soap, a business which generated him millions. In 1991, he launched an oil plant in Thika an industrial town in Kiambu and northeast of Nairobi. Bidco has grown to become one of the largest manufacturers of oils in the entire nation.

Besides making soap, Bidco also manufactures detergents, beauty soaps, and baking powders. The billionaire reportedly generates over $300 million in annual revenues from the firm. The company has expanded its market in more than 13 African countries. His son, Vimal Shah serves as CEO of the firm. Born in Mombasa in 1931, Shah has faced a number of challenges while creating wealth but he never gave up. Today he is richer than many influential politicians including President Uhuru Kenyatta and Former Prime Minister, Raila Amolo Odinga.
