Despite attracting a host of contestants, Nyamira governorship race may after all be narrowed down to three people.
Among those in the race include incumbent John Nyagarama (ODM), James Gesami (Independent), Walter Nyambati (Jubilee), Mwancha Okioma (PDP) and Anasi Onyancha (Wiper).
Most of the contestants have either served as elected MPs before or served at reputable organizations in the country.
With clan, party, development record and financial muscles being the major parameters to determine the winner, Gesami, Nyambati and Nyagarama are at pole position to capture the seat.
Nyagarama will be riding on ODM popularity in the region, an advantage that may no longer be meaningful given that a section of party supporters disputed the Orange party nominations in which Gesami suspected foul play.
Both Nyagarama and Gesami comes from West Mugirango constituency and from the predominant Omogirango clan a long with Onyancha, a factor that makes even the matrix to be complicated.
While Nyambati will be riding on the fact that he contests from a major party, Jubilee, which may after all be unpopular in Nyamira, he will be banking on his previous development record when he served as Kitutu Masaba MP.
However, his chances could be dealt a blow given the participation of another former MP Mwancha Okioma of PDP.
But based on the indispensable clan, party and financial capabilities, Gesami, Nyagarama and Nyambati may remain front runners in the race.
