Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said he will reach out to retired Presidents Daniel Moi, Mwai Kibaki and President Uhuru Kenyatta to back his 2022 presidential bid.
Addressing a convention of leaders from the Kamba community in Machakos on Monday, Kalonzo said he is ready to succeed President Uhuru stating he is not ready to back any other candidate for the top seat in 2022 elections.
The NASA co-principal dismissed claims that he is a watermelon, saying he does not care about what other leaders say about him.“I’ve been called all sorts of names, but I do not take offense,” Kalonzo said.
“If you hear them calling Kalonzo a watermelon, tell them they are the seeds themselves.”
Other leaders from Ukambani region including former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama, Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana and her Kitui counterpart Charity Ngilu said they will rally the electorate behind Kalonzo to enable him ascend to the nation’s top seat.
The meeting comes a time when there is a political storm in NASA after Kalonzo, Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula skipped the controversial swearing in of the former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga.
The situation worsened when Raila meet Uhuru in a move the trio termed as betrayal.
