In his new book, ‘Against All Odds, Kalonzo Musyoka narrates how, after the grand coalition government that made Raila Odinga the prime minister, there was a standoff among Kibaki’s kitchen cabinet.
They were divided between those who supported NARC Kenya leaders Martha Karua and those who backed Uhuru Kenyatta in the deputy prime minister’s post.
In the book, the former vice president states that those who supported Uhuru Kenyatta claimed that the Kenyatta’s contributed heavily towards Kibaki’s campaign and this made him win.
Those that stood behind Martha Karua said that she had been so loyal to the former president and had fiercely defended him when the results were disputed hence she deserved the post.
Kalonzo states that he personally went to plead with Kibaki to appoint Uhuru but it emerged that the former president feared being branded a tribalist.
