In a unique turnout of events, Maraga attended a meeting convened at Great Rift Valley Lodge on Sunday whose main focus was to focus on unity within the larger Gusii community.

In the meeting, a source says, Maraga also urged leaders to support the peace deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.

"The Chief Justice was less concerned with political setup rather, he based his speech on need for the Gusii leaders to work together," said the source.

The source further added: "He also urged the leaders to support peace initiative by Uhuru and Raila. He also urged the local leaders to be tolerant to each other."

Despite a substantive number of attendees, the meeting was however snubbed by Governors John Nyagarama (Nyamira) and James Ongwae (Kisii).

Also absent was Senators Okong'o Mogeni (Nyamira), Sam Ongeri (Kisii) and Kisii Women Rep Janet Ong'era.
