Kavindu, who spoke after being issued with a certificate to contest for Machakos woman representative, said that President Kenyatta has stood with women, adding that she is confident of victory. "The President has always supported women... I promise to deliver," she said on Monday, as quoted by Star.
The aspirant also said that she has no doubt women from this part of the nation will back her election bid when that time comes. “I know the women of Machakos will stand with me. I will fight for the rights of women,” she added.
Kavindu is set to lock horns with Joyce Kamene (Wiper) Francisca Mutinda (Maendeleo Chap Chap), Jane Ndeti (CCU) and independent candidate Rita Ndunge. Former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile has exuded confidence that Kavindu will compete favorably for the seat in the August polls.
“Knowing what many women go through in their families, I am sure she will fight for those who have been abused by their husbands,” said Ndile. Meanwhile, Muthama has threatened to reveal shocking details about Kalonzo. The senator has accused Kalonzo of imposing leaders on the people of Machakos.
“A culture of killing democracy has emerged in our party and repression has been promoted," he said in a statement. "The party leader has been imposing candidates and ensuring that by hook or crook, these people become Wiper candidates,” he said.
