Hunger, darkness and daily beatings are some of the torture tactics that Daniel Moi’s government subjected to crusaders of pluralism in 90s.
Moi, who ruled the country for 24 years, had perfected on single party dictatorship which was fought gallantly by opposition politicians and civil rights groups.
And on Friday during the commemoration of Saba Saba Day, Odinga narrated how Charles Rubia, Kenneth Matiba and himself were tortured by the regime.
“Prior to Saba Saba Rubia, Matiba and I were arrested and taken to Nyayo Chambers. We want without food, subjected to darkness and even submerged in water,” he recalled.
He added: “It was not a good experience but we made it. I know many other Kenyans who went through the ordeal.”
The three were arrested days to the culmination of pluralism fight that took place on 7th of July in 1990 at the famous Kamukunji grounds.
During the rally, police engaged demonstrators on running battles leading to the death of many Kenyans during the fateful days 27 years ago.
