Ties between Dar es salaam and Nairobi could substantially improve following a secret phone call between President John Magufuli and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
For months now, Tanzania and Kenya have been embroiled in diplomatic scuffles leading to reprisal that saw Maasai cows confiscated by the former's authorities.
At Meru on Friday, Raila revealed that Magufuli called him and discussed ties between the two countries, at the same time praising President Uhuru Kenyatta's leadership.
"Today, I received a phone call from Magufuli. He first told me to great the Meru people when I arrive," said Raila.
"He also told me to greet the president (Uhuru) and tell him that the two countries will continue working together," he added.
The strained relationship between the two countries also saw Magufuli skipping Uhuru's controversial inauguration in December last year.
But for years, Raila has been enjoying close ties with Magufuli and he was even invited to visit the latter's home in Tanzania in 2016.
